Representative Louise McIntosh Slaughter (D-NY) served New York's 25th district from 1987 until her passing in March 2018, making her one of the longest-serving women in Congress. A microbiologist by training, she was best known as a fierce advocate for women's health issues and as the primary author of the STOCK Act of 2012, landmark legislation designed to combat insider trading by members of Congress. Ironically, despite championing transparency in congressional trading, Slaughter disclosed only 5 trades during her final year in office, with activity between February 2017 and February 2018 totaling an estimated $5,000 to $75,000. Her modest trading portfolio showed concentration in consumer staples like Procter & Gamble (PG), reflecting a conservative investment approach that stood in stark contrast to some of her more active trading colleagues. Her legacy remains defined far more by her ethics reforms than by her minimal market activity.
